COME FROM AWAY – China Tour in 2020
China are you ready? ‘Come From Away’ is landing right at your doorstep in Shanghai this coming May 2020. The English-language tour will launch at SAIC-Shanghai Culture Square on May 8 as part of the hit musical’s sixth production.
The China production by ACOrange, Rodney Rigby, Junkyard Dog Productions adds to the impressive list of currently-running productions in the North American tour, Melbourne, Toronto, London, and New York. The production is expected to announce all the cities that are part of the China tour, starting with Shanghai.
‘Come From Away’ is an inspiring life-affirming musical that highlights the power of humanity when residents of Newfoundland town welcome and accommodate stranded travelers following terrorist attacks on September 11. The musical features lyrics, music, and a book by a Canadian couple, David Hein and Irene Sankoff.
‘Come From Away’ opened in Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on March 12, 2017, to much admiration from the theatre world. Its accolades include seven nominations for the 2017 Tony Awards with the production’s director, Ashley, scooping the Tony for Best Direction of a Musical.
Similarly, the London production hit the ground running – winning Olivier Awards for Best Choreography, Best Sound Design, Outstanding Achievement in Music, and even the Best New Musical since opening at the Phoenix Theatre in January 2019. The creative team includes Christopher Ashley (director), Kelly Devine (musical staging), Ian Eisendrath (musical arrangements and supervision), Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Tori-Leslie James (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Eriksmoen (orchestrations)and Gareth Owen (sound design).
